Vendor Management Program – Assessing and Managing Third Party Risks
Vendor management has become one of the top critical areas of company operations today. With the inherent risks, increasing reliance on third parties, and the additional scrutiny and regulations coming from different regulatory and governance bodies, a formal vendor risk management program has become a major area of attention for board members, senior management, and regulatory authorities. Dale’s presentation will focus on the key components of an effective vendor management program, including assessing risks associated with third-party relationships.
Dale South is a hands-on internal audit professional with over twenty-five years of progressive experience in developing and directing audit functions and working with management to improve the effectiveness of risk management and controls. In addition, he has extensive experience in the areas of IT governance, security, and risk management as well as information systems auditng, incident response, contingency planning, and HIPAA compliance.
He is currently a Senior Consultant in the GRC practice area of Impact Makers. Prior to joining Impact Makers, Dale worked in KPMG’s Federal Advisory Services Practice as a Lead Analyst of IT Controls. In addition, Dale has worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia in a variety of roles including Internal Audit Director, IT Audit Manager, Financial/Operational Audit Manager, and State Bank Examiner. Furthermore, Dale worked for the Virginia Credit Union, Inc., serving as its first internal auditor.
Dale received his B.S. degree in Finance from Virginia Tech and his MBA from Averett University. In addition, he did post-graduate work in accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University and earned his post-baccalaureate certificate in information systems from the University of Richmond. He is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, and Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems. In addition, Dale is a past practicing Certified Public Accountant.
Maintaining active status with several professional audit groups, Dale has served as the Secretary and Vice President of the Central Virginia Chapter of the IIA and as a board member of the Virginia Chapter of ISACA. He is also a past member of Toastmasters International.
