President’s Message

Dear Orange County Chapter Members,
As of June 1st our new slate of Board Officers and Governors start their term of office for the upcoming chapter year. I would like to extend many thanks to the 2017-2018 Board of Governors, particularly the outgoing chapter President, Rachel Snell. Under her leadership, our chapter provided eight lunch trainings, a one-day fall conference, the sold out March conference in partnership with ISACA and ACFE, awarded six student scholarships and sponsored five student IIA memberships. Thank you, Rachel, for your many contributions to the chapter and efforts that contributed to us achieving another year of Platinum status in the IIA’s Chapter Achievement Program.  I would also like to thank Roy Currington, prior chapter president, for his years of service to the chapter and wish him well in his ventures outside the state of California

To celebrate International Internal Audit Awareness Month, the OC chapter offered complimentary registration to our May lunch training on the topic of “Top 10 Security Improvements From A Penetration Tester” presented by Loras Even of RSM. Thank you again Loras for your informative presentation!
This coming year will be an exciting time for our chapter, as we co-host high profile conferences. First was the successful Southern California Conference that took place on Monday, June 25th at the Anaheim Marriott. This annual conference was hosted by the seven IIA chapters of Southern California offered eight CPEs across four tracks, two keynote speakers and a hosted networking reception in the evening. Thank you to all of the attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and volunteers that helped make this event possible. A special thank you to the Conference Chair, Nicole Ungaro (Orange County Chapter), and Vice Chair, Paul Abate (San Fernando Valley Chapter).
Orange County is also one of the hosting chapters for the 2019 IIA International Conference July 7-10th at the Anaheim Convention Center. See pages 2 and 3 for additional details and stay tuned for registration information that is expected later this summer.
The chapter is successful in part due to our sponsors, but also due to the contributions of our volunteers. Help is needed in a wide variety of areas that require as little as 2-3 hours per month, to roles serving as a committee chair for up to 10-12 hours per month. Volunteering is excellent career experience and provides many networking opportunities. For anyone interested in getting involved with the OC Chapter of the IIA please refer to the list of committees and roles offered on the last page of this newsletter and send me an email with your areas of interest to (meghankennedy.iia@gmail.com).
As the incoming President of the IIA Orange County Chapter, I am excited for the year ahead to serve the members and work with our incredible group of volunteers. Wishing everyone a great summer and look forward to seeing you at our first lunch event in August!
Best regards,
Meghan Kennedy
President (2018), IIA Orange County Chapter
