Academic Relations Committee Announcement from the President

Members,

As we are gearing up for the college season, I wanted reach out about the continuing great work that our Chapter has done with expanding our relations with the colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area. The mission of the Chapter’sAcademic Relations Committee (ARC) is to promote the internal auditing profession to academia and students in the Philadelphia region. Additionally, we aim to create and maintain relationships with students, professors, and local colleges/universities by hosting networking opportunities and presenting to students to increase our profession's visibility. Some planned activities include: case study competitions, job fairs, lunch and learns, information tables, meet and greets, socials, alumni events, etc.  This is a key aspect of the Chapter’s Strategic Plan for 2017-2018.

The effort is chaired by Alicia Preddy under our VP of Membership – Laurie Riggs. Alicia has done an excellent job over the last number of years in growing the influence and reach of the program. Our Committee includes: Bernadette Robinson, Bill Donehower, Marie-Dominique Ortiz, Kristen Herman, David Small, Marc Lyman, Tara Dieckhaus, Matt Skala, Drew Semple, Shawn Marion, Bijan Barikbin, and Allison Amrein.

To support our efforts, the ARC is currently planning many outreach events and we are looking for alumni from the target schools (or alumni from any school) to participate/volunteer to help in this great effort!  (Another Strategic Goal is to expand the participation of our Chapter members!)

The target schools this year include:

Please reach out to Alicia Preddy (Alicia.Preddy@rsmus.com) or

Laurie Riggs (membership@phillyiia.org) to get involved!!

As a next step, we are in the process of establishing aNextGen committee to increase the involvement of the Chapters younger members.  The goal of the NextGen committee is to develop, engage, and empower young diverse internal audit professionals to grow within the profession and their respective organizations, and become meaningful contributors and future leaders in the Institute of Internal Auditors Philadelphia Chapter. In fact some of our current Chapter Officers came from this demographic (I promised not to embarrass them)!  More to follow as we continue to develop and implement the NextGen initiative!!

If you would like to become a NextGen member

Again – it is an honor to serve as your president and working with such a great Board of Governors to direct the Chapter’s work and implement the Chapter’s Strategic Plan.
