TOPIC: WHAT PROFESSIONALS NEED TO KNOW!

Hear from experts on two important topics:

The Affordable Care Act - In March 2010, President Obama signed comprehensive health reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly called the Affordable Care Act), into law. While some provisions of the law have already taken effect, many more provisions will be implemented in the 2014 year and beyond. For example, beginning in 2014, individuals must acquire minimum insurance coverage and in 2015 large employers must begin to offer coverage. There are a host of other provisions that apply to not-for-profit organizations, governments and private employers. If you are a government employee this law will eventually impact you and your health insurance coverage as well. Hear what changes are coming so that you are prepared professionally for this major change in the U.S.

AICPA Attest Standards and the Clarity Project - The AICPA auditing and attest standards lay the foundation for nearly all auditing services and are integrated into the GAO’s Yellow Book by reference. As an auditor, you are faced with applying these standards correctly when you conduct an engagement. As an accountant you may be faced with procuring these services for your organization or providing guidance to your organization as to what these professional services entail. Whether you are on the audit side or the accounting side of the operation, you need to understand these foundational standards.

Learning Objectives: To learn techniques about the provisions of the Affordable Care Act and its impacts on all governments and not for profits and to understand the important changes to the audit and attest standards.
