 About This Chapter

The Atlanta Chapter was established in 1947 .Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association of more than 122,000 members worldwide.  The IIA Atlanta Chapter has over 1900 members from a wide range of industries, educational institutions and local, state and federal government agencies.  Our membership includes employees ranging from public Fortune 50 corporations to private closely-held companies.  The IIA Atlanta Chapters enjoys the participation of many Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) as well as management and staff auditors.

The mission of our organization is to further the professional practice of internal auditing through advocacy and education.  The Atlanta Chapter has worked with Kennesaw State University to establish the first IIA Center for Internal Auditing in the state of Georgia to provide graduates with internal audit education needed to enter our profession.  We are also working with Georgia State University as they embark on their efforts to develop their Internal Audit capabilities.  We support these efforts financially as well as through a student internal auditing club, student activities and educational presentations to students.

Through our experience in 2007 of putting on the most successful regional conference in IIA history and an outstanding International Conference in 2010, the IIA Atlanta Chapter recognizes that there is significant demand for high quality, reasonably priced internal audit education.  The 2007 Regional Conference drew more than 550 attendees, and the 2010 International Conference attracted over 2,200 attendees (with almost 600 members from the state of Georgia).

Our new signature event is “The Atlanta Conference” that is scheduled to be held each September.  Our Annual Atlanta Conference is scheduled for September at the Cobb Galleria.  We seek your involvement to work with us to continue to bring quality training to our membership and to broaden your company’s exposure to our membership and the Atlanta business community.

On an ongoing basis, the Atlanta Chapter has monthly lunch meetings where attendees are eligible to earn three hours of continuing professional education.  These are excellent opportunities to support and network with internal audit professionals.  In Fall, we sponsor the Annual Student Case Competition.  In February we present our popular Student Day Event at Kennesaw State University.  Students from Georgia colleges and universities and Atlanta companies participate in this event where students interview for internships and permanent positions and network with professionals.
