Learning new things
Thanks again to Weaver for sponsoring some super low-cost CPE for our members. The slides from the presentations are now available here.

Appreciating our volunteers

Thanks to Jennifer Wu, of the Texas Department of Public Safety, for organizing the very successful social event between the IIA, ISACA, and AGA. Jennifer worked with the two presidents of the other organizations, leading weekly conference calls, and navigating each chapter’s rules. So many IIA people signed up that Jennifer had to go ask for more space for our IIA folks from the other organizations. Jennifer also sends out the CPE certificates for all IIA trainings.

Jacob Whitley, a colleague of Jennifer’s at DPS, has the warm personality and gracious smile that we all appreciate when we sign in at the Alamo. Thank you, Jacob, for making that part of our meetings so enjoyable and for keeping our records and money straight!

Going dark for a little bit

News from our chapter will slow down over the summer as the officers consider plans for the 2019-2020 year. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t still listening and responding to member needs. Write to any of the officers here whenever you please: About Us.

Summer Hiatus!

The IIA Austin Chapter is on hiatus through the summer. We'll get rolling again in August with a new board and new leadership! In the meantime, get out and enjoy Austin!

Steve Goodson teaches future internal auditors at UT

The University of Texas at Austin is a part of the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP), endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). This makes UT one of only 24 universities with this designation. Students can earn an IIA Internal Audit Certificate by completing three audit-focused courses. Steve Goodson, pictured below, teaches one of those classes and answered a few questions about the class for the university's Accounting Times:

Why are students interested in Internal Audit? Internal audit is a well-hidden secret! It encompasses both accounting and management practices, and students enjoy discovering a career path that provides an exciting alternative to financial auditing.

What is unique about this class? This class provides real-world experience. Students partner with a local organization to complete an internal audit team project – unique and professional training that is difficult to replicate in the classroom.

What's your favorite part of teaching this class? Accompanying students to IAEP’s Exchange Conference each fall in Orlando!
