Does a new year mean a new job for you?

The City of Austin and other local employers have openings -- see our Careers page for details, and don't forget to check back for new openings!

New Chapter Bylaws Approved

New bylaws were approved by the members on January 8! The revised bylaws (read them here), reflect the new recommended Chapter Bylaws framework provided by The IIA, and include these changes:
  • Renaming the Vice President for CPE to Vice President of Education,
  • Adding a Membership Officer,
  • Adding Articles for Conflict of Interest, Rules of Disbursements, and Indemnification,
  • Removing requirement of an annual business meeting, and
  • Increasing the timeframe for annual elections from 30 to 60 days prior to the IIA’s Annual Leadership Conference.

Meet Nazrine Khan, our Chapter Secretary!

What do you do for the Chapter?
I’m the elected Secretary for the Austin IIA Chapter and oversee the reporting of our Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) points.

How long have you been at your current job?
I celebrated my five year anniversary in September.

Where do you work?
I work at Grant Thornton within Public Sector Advisory practice.

What does your job entail?
As a manager, I’m currently overseeing projects for two State of Texas agencies. Both projects are similar since they relate to reviewing and monitoring a third party vendor’s contractual performance for the State agency.

What is the best part of your job?
I love that I’m continuously provided an opportunity to learn. By working on several different types of engagements for various state agencies, I have the opportunity to learn about their strategic goals and initiatives. In addition, I also have insight into third party vendor’s operations as it relates to the services they provide the State.

What do you hope to master in the next five years?
I would love to master another language (either Spanish or French).

What excites you about the auditing profession?
I like that we are continuously trying to improve our approach and methodologies to auditing. It’s exciting to see how analytics and automation has impacted our profession.

You can see pictures of our chapter leaders, including Nazrine, on our About Us page.

Looking forward

April 18 (tentative) – Happy Hour with ISACA and the AGA.
