Topic: The New COSO Framework - 2013
The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) has issued an update to Internal Control - Integrated Framework, the control definition that has become the world-wide standard for auditors and other risk and control personnel. Is it really a new framework? Are different evaluation tools needed? How does it differ from the original framework and from the ERM framework? What's the impact on certifications such as Sarbanes-Oxley, and on audit efforts? Those are just some of the questions we'll answer in this session.

Auditing IT processes and activities within the organization are among the highest priorities for today’s Internal Audit Departments, particularly given IT’s purpose as a critical enabler of virtually all business functions. This session provides an understanding of the true purpose of IT auditing and how it should fit into a broader Internal Audit agenda. It will also focus on hot topics in Information technology and how well planned IT audits can help the organization better manage technology risk and drive underlying business value.

Topic: High Impact Audit Report Writing
This session provides an understanding of the true purpose of the audit report and the corresponding critical information that should be included.  It also identifies and discusses the key components of a high impact report and how to incorporate a new format or enhance your current format for reporting audit exceptions.  Each participant will learn the five component approach to documenting an audit exception; review, examine and identify the five component approach; identify and discuss components of real action; and reveal the keys to successful and timely issuance of audit reports.

Larry Hubbard is a professional trainer and consultant with a broad background in accounting, auditing and finance. His experience includes audit management; information systems, financial, and operational auditing; financial reporting; consulting and training; and organization directorship. As principal of Larry Hubbard & Associates Larry delivers highly interactive, practical training and consulting to internal auditors and other professionals.

Larry is a frequent author, course leader, and speaker for The Institute of Internal Auditors and other professional organizations. Larry specializes in leading control self-assessment, creative thinking, information technology, operational auditing, and risk assessment courses. Larry authored The IIA's CSA Introduction, CSA Facilitation Techniques, Operational Auditing, and Financial Literacy for Auditors courses. He also was a member of Internal Auditor magazine's Editorial Advisory Board and edited their Back to Basics Department for eight years. Larry also published A Practical Guide to CSA. He is also a qualified validator for internal audit Quality Assessment Reviews.

Prior to founding Larry Hubbard & Associates, Larry was training manager for Mobil Corporation in Fairfax, Virginia, and helped plan the audit departments implementation of control self-assessment, a worldwide risk assessment methodology, and self-directed work teams. Immediately prior to his training position, Larry was administration director for Mobil Oil in Wellington, New Zealand. He was responsible for 200 professionals in accounting, auditing, information systems, purchasing, and tax functions, and a member of the steering committee for the implementation of the SAP accounting system in Australia and New Zealand.
Larry received his MS degree in Computer Science from the University of North Texas and his BS degree in Mathematics from West Texas State University. He now lives in Bethesda, Maryland, and is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Information Systems Auditor, and is certified in Control Self-Assessment. Also, Larry is a board member and past president of the Northern Virginia Chapter of The IIA and a member of the ACFE, AICPA, and ISACA. When he is not working or tinkering with one of his many personal computers, Larry is an avid gardener, backpacker, and scuba diver.

Trey has 20 years of experience in the Information Technology, Financial Services, Health Care, Risk Management and Insurance, and Energy/Utilities industries. During this time he has focused in the areas of IT Strategy development, Enterprise Infrastructure management, IT Security, Information Lifecycle Management, Software & Database Architecture design and development. Trey has helped design, develop, and implement optimized IT strategies, Enterprise Architectures, Software and data management environments for multiple clients in key industries.
Robert Mainardi & Associates, LLC
After 21 years of working in the Internal Audit profession in the financial services industry, Robert has started his own company which develops and facilitates custom internal audit training as well as evaluating, creating, and implementing formal audit methodologies.  Prior to starting his company, Robert L. Mainardi was the Vice President of Internal Audit for the Penn Mutual Life Ins. Co. and was responsible for the direction and oversight of the Internal Audit Department. He was responsible for Penn Mutual’s internal audit activities, as well as those of its subsidiaries.  Prior to joining Penn Mutual, he was a Senior Audit Manager for The Vanguard Group where he was responsible for the Investment Programs & Services and Methods & Infrastructure teams.
As a professional speaker and consultant, Mr. Mainardi leads client programs to:
      • Develop and maintain world class internal auditing functions
      • Create, implement, and maintain continous auditing programs
      • Draft, finalize, and issue high impact audit reports
      • Establish and facilitate ERM programs
      • Construct, execute, and manage audit performance dashboards

Mr. Mainardi’s expertise and experience in continuous auditing has recently been recognized by Wiley & Sons in his published work – Harnessing the Power of Continuous Auditing.  He is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and has been a Distinguished Faculty Member for over 20 years.  He has been invited to the IIA All Star conference every year since its inception.  He continues to be a featured speaker at MIS Super Strategies and Audit World as well as IIA and other professional association events each year; IIA International, GAM, GRC, All Star, Regional and District Conferences.  He received a BS degree from The Pennsylvania State University where he majored in Accounting and Business Law.  He also earned a master’s degree in Finance from Temple University.   Plus, he has merited the Six Sigma Green Belt certification; earned the Qualification in Control Self-Assessment; and is certified to perform Quality Assessment reviews.
