Event Sum​mary
This session will review the “cradle to grave” approach to audit construction projects and related activities. This approach focuses attention on each stage of the Construction Life Cycle – Planning/Design, Bid/Procurement, Construction, and Close-out. Detailed audit strategies will be reviewed to address the risk and exposure in each phase of the life cycle – with emphasis on the construction project delivery and compensation methodologies. In addition, key stakeholders will be identified, along with an in-depth review of how their role and responsibilities are an integral part of the governance and oversight process. Additionally, by reviewing the construction life cycle process, attendees will be better prepared to (1) identify which projects should be audited and the elements that should be considered when designing audit work plans; (2) develop strategies to minimize risk in each phase of the life cycle; and (3) establish audit approaches that mitigate opportunities for contractor overcharges and improve contractor oversight and compliance, thus mitigating opportunities for fraud. 
​Event Objectives
This session will allow students to work together to further explore the risks associated with construction audit.  Building on what was learned in morning session, attendees will build a risk matrix that shows issues, risks, anticipated controls and audit steps to test and mitigate for risks identified.  Attendees will learn what keeps executives and project managers “up at night” and the impact these risks can pose to project success.  There will also be a brief exercise on how users need to monitor and react to project sabotage.​
