IIA Central Ohio Chapter President 2020 - 2021

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Central Ohio Chapter year! What a start it has been, definitely unlike any other. The officers and I have been working diligently to figure out how to plan this year given all the change and uncertainty in our environment, and I am happy with the strategy we have developed. I am honored and blessed to be your President for the chapter year and look forward to navigating through this extraordinary time. I have been in risk management for close to 15 years and an officer of the Central Ohio Chapter for over  five years, working my way up from Assistant Treasurer though all the ranks to now President. I could not be prouder to be leading the chapter this year.

These are challenging times for everyone, with expense pressures, restructurings, and job losses. However, in challenging times there is also opportunity. I believe we can learn and grow as an organization and a profession and see long-term benefits as a result. The Central Ohio Chapter had never done a virtual training prior to May of this year and now we will be doing all virtual trainings for the foreseeable future.

We are learning, growing and stretching into new places. One benefit of virtual is that our cost is lowered, so our goal this year is to give back to our members and offer free and/or reduced cost trainings throughout the year. Visit our chapter website to register for upcoming trainings, including our signature “one day” Internal Audit Innovation event that will be broken out into two half days this year given the virtual format. We also have IIA representatives scheduled to speak in September about the updated Three Lines Model that was recently released, which we are happy to offer as a free event.

In closing, I am sure many of you are aware that Richard Chambers is stepping down as the IIA President and CEO in March, which will bring even more change, making the theme this year “the year of change”! These times push us to embrace change, be agile, and show our value, which I believe will benefit the IIA and the Internal Audit profession in the long term.
I look forward to “seeing” many of you at our upcoming events this year.
