Milwaukee Wisconsin |
The Milwaukee County Office of the Comptroller – Audit Services Division, State of Wisconsin Legislative Audit Bureau, and City of Milwaukee Comptroller’s Office are honored to host the Midwestern Intergovernmental Audit Forum (MIAF) on September 12-13, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, School of Continuing Education.  The meeting’s theme is “Staying Ahead of the Curve.”  As we continue to navigate through these challenging economic times, we must reflect upon lessons learned and focus on future goals.  Government auditing, like any endeavor, benefits from thorough planning, preparation, and the ability to persevere through the inevitable setbacks.  The September Forum will help you stay ahead of the curve with speaker John Knepel, Partner, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP describing strategies for identifying financial risk in “Enterprise Risk Management,”  Richard Frohling, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Eastern District, sharing the latest prosecution trends involving fraud with “Update on Federal Prosecutions, and John Graham of Buck Consultants describing how substantive savings were achieved at Milwaukee County in “Dependent Eligibility Verification Should be a Part of Your Overall Cost Containment Strategy."

Preparation is a major key to success in auditing.  Joah Iannotta and Stanley Czerwinski of the U.S. Government Accountability Office will help prepare you for whatever’s next in “The Data Act and its State & Local Government Impacts,” and Michelle Sager, also of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, will share insights through “Dialog on Auditing in Times of Fiscal & Governmental Challenges.”

In his keynote address, “4 Secrets to Becoming a S.T.A.R. – How to Attain Success in Your Personal and Professional Life,” Neil Ihde, Founder, Life IQ, LLC, will provide a roadmap to personal and professional success and happiness.  Speaker Jay Williams, President/CEO of the Milwaukee Public Museum will chronicle how effective business strategies helped the Museum avoid bankruptcy and steer efforts to keep it viable in “Rescuing the Milwaukee Public Museum,” while Rob Henken, President, Public Policy Forum, will relate his views on how an independent organization can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government in “The Role of Public Policy Research.”

Another way auditors can stay ahead of the curve is to acquire skills for effectively auditing in the new technological environment.  Tom Wojcinski, Director, Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP will address this subject in his presentation entitled “Auditing in the Cloud.”  In addition, David Feiss, Assistant District Attorney, Milwaukee County, describes how fraud was perpetrated by service providers in “Child Care Program Fraud.”

The meeting's registration fee of $175 includes breaks, meals, and 11 continuing professional education (CPE) credits.  The Forum will be held at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, School of Continuing Education, 161 W Wisconsin Ave, 7th Floor, Milwaukee, WI, 53203, http://www4.uwm.edu/sce/.  The Hampton Inn & Suites – Downtown Milwaukee, 176 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI, 53203, located directly across the street, is offering a group rate of $97 per night for a single room plus state and local taxes.  The hotel is holding a limited number of rooms, so please reserve your room on or before Wednesday, August 28, 2013.  Please make your reservation for the Event directly with Hampton Inn & Suites – Downtown Milwaukee at 1-888-271-4656 and identify yourself as a MIAF participant.  You may also make your reservation online at www.hamptoninn.com.  Once on the website, click on “Add special rate code” and enter Group Code: CHXMIA to receive MIAF’s discounted group rate.
