While good governance, risk management, and controls have been at the core of great organizations throughout history, the focus by government and regulatory bodies on private organizations today is greater than ever before. The pace and global nature of today’s business environment necessitates strong governance systems that can help organizations meet their goals and the expectations of their stakeholders. Internal audit can and should play a critical role in helping organizations identify appropriate control systems and provide assurance of regular review and testing of those controls.
To provide direction to internal audit departments regarding governance, The IIA developed  Assessing Organizational Governance in the Private Sector, a practice guide that serves as the basis for this online broadcast to explore:
  • Understanding the context of and defining organizational governance
  • The role of internal audit in providing assurance and consulting services identifying and analyzing relevant governance
  • Processes/Practices and the assessment criteria to use
  • Developing the periodic plan for auditing governance
  • Planning and completing governance engagements
