Dear Colorado Springs Chapter Members,

What a crazy year we are living in – one hopefully never to be repeated.  I hope you are each doing well and surviving all the things 2020 has thrown at us.  As auditors we tend to be a resilient bunch, so I hope that has served you well.  As the continuing Chapter President for the 2020-2021 year I wanted to share the board goals for this coming year, and some success we achieved last year.

Our biggest goal this year is to be able to get back to meeting in person.  As you know, Colorado Springs is a very small chapter and we are not equipped for electronic meetings at this time.  In March when we cancelled our first meeting none of us could have predicted that almost six months later we still wouldn’t be able to meet in person.  We are hoping to start up with our in-person meetings in January.  Our contract with the Warehouse has ended and we have not determined if we will renegotiate our contract and continue to meet there or if we will find a new location to meet.  We are trying to keep in mind convenience of location for our members and, of course, parking.  We may be searching outside of the downtown area where the chapter has always met to allow us to take advantage of different opportunities with more parking options.  Stay tuned, there is more to come on this.

Our second goal is to increase volunteerism.  This was one of our goals for last year and we continue to feel this is important for the chapter to continue.  We have an amazing group of volunteers, many who have volunteered for years.  We are always looking for individuals to add to our volunteer roster and some of the roles take minimal time commitments but make a big impact. If you haven’t volunteered with us before, please consider increasing your volunteer commitment event if just a slight amount.

Last year we were able to successfully implement the IIA’s Event Management Tool. It took a few trials and errors, but we have it up and running and have been able to cancel our contract with Constant Contact and use the EMT tool instead.  We did maintain our Platinum status with the IIA during the year by being grandfathered in.  By cutting our year short we were unable to complete all the activities necessary to hit Platinum level but based on prior performance we were grandfathered into the status.  We are striving to maintain this level again this year.  Chapter Achievement Point activities have changed again for the coming year so we are looking at how we can accomplish those tasks.

We will continue to share virtual seminars from other chapters who have been gracious enough to allow us to attend at the same cost as their members.  We will continue to look for ways to offer training locally as soon as we are able.  As always if you have suggestions for changes, ideas for topics or speakers, we want to hear from you.

This chapter wouldn’t be a chapter without you, our members.  I want to say thank you for your support to the chapter through your continued membership and attendance at our events.  We do appreciate you!

On behalf of the 2020-2021 board, thank you for being a member!

 Be Well!
