On behalf of the IIA Detroit Chapter’s Nominating Committee, we present the nominations for
Chapter’s 2021-2022 Officers and Board of Governors. We are now required by the IIA to present all Officers and Board Members to our membership for approval, which will be completed during our annual business meeting in May during the program meeting.  Registration details for our virtual May meeting will be coming soon.

 

Officers


President: Kamilla Williams has over 20 years of experience in internal audit and currently serves as the Audit Quality Assurance Manager at Wayne State University.  Kamilla holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).  Kamilla has volunteered with the Detroit IIA for many years, has been recognized as a Rock Star of the Month and serves on the board as the Membership Chair.

 

Vice President: Pete Hartung is an Audit Manager with General Motors Audit Services.  He works in the Corporate Audit group where he manages process audits and consultative reviews in North America.  Pete has experience working for several large OEMs in the automotive industry.  He has served on the Board of Governors for the Detroit Chapter of the IIA since 2016 and is the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.  Pete is a CIA and holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina and a BA from Brown University.

Secretary: Carrie Schrader is a Principal at UHY Consulting.  She leads the Risk Advisory Services practice that focuses on internal audit, internal controls, enterprise risk and compliance.  Carrie has been involved with both the Detroit IIA and ISACA chapters for many years. She has a BA in Accounting and Finance from Oakland University. Carrie maintains her CISA, CFE, CRISC and CGEIT certifications.

 

Treasurer: Alan Demir is a Director with the Grant Thornton Business Risk Advisory Services team in the Detroit (Southfield) office. He is responsible for managing consulting services teams performing internal audits, IT, and compliance audit engagements, and other advisory services to multibillion-dollar organizations. Alan is a CPA, CIA, Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). Alan has been an active member of the IIA nationally for many years and serves as a Treasurer for the Detroit Chapter.

 

Program Committee Chair:  Rick Lowe is the State of Michigan’s Chief Internal Auditor.  He is also a CPA, CISA and CIA.  Rick has over 30 years of experience in various leadership roles in the areas of audit, internal control and risk management.  He has worked with all State of Michigan executive branch departments to improve internal audit, risks management and internal control practices, all of these linking together to improve the State’s enterprise risk management (ERM) capabilities.  In his 30+ years of professional experience, Rick worked in public accounting before joining the Michigan Legislative Auditor General.  He then moved to the State’s executive branch into leadership roles in the State’s internal audit and internal control programs.    Rick is on the Detroit IIA Board and has served as the Program Chair for the past two years.


Membership Committee Chair:  Joshua Kramer is a Manager at UHY Advisors and specializes in the Risk Advisory Services practice where he focuses on internal audit, internal controls and robotic process automation. He has over 15 years of experience in internal audit, internal controls, fraud investigations and remediating significant internal control deficiencies. He is a CIA and also has his CISA and CCSA. He earned an MBA from Walsh College and Bachelor of Science-Accounting from MSU. He is a member of The IIA, ISACA and ACFE and currently services on the Detroit IIA Board.



Board of Governors


Lola Foster had an extensive career at AAA-The Auto Club Group  where she most recently was Manager, Corporate Compliance & Examination. Prior to joining the Compliance team, she held positions in internal audit, finance, and processing systems administration.  Lola is a CIA, CFSA and CRISC.  She is immediate past president of the IIA-Detroit chapter and has also served as chairperson of the Membership Committee.

 

Sharon Gipson is the vice president, Enterprise Audit for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and focuses on internal controls, risk management and governance.    She is also responsible for auditing corporate performance and coordinating external audits.  Sharon has served as the deputy auditor general of the City of Detroit, State of Michigan Office of the Auditor General deputy division administrator and Schools of the 21st Century/Detroit Annenberg Project financial officer.  Sharon is a CPA and holds a BBA from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan.  Sharon is a past president of the Detroit IIA and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association of Southeast Michigan and IIA Detroit Chapter. 

 

Rick Hinston is the Chief Audit Executive at Joyson Safety Systems, headquartered in Auburn Hills, MI.  Prior to his CAE role at Joyson, Rick worked at Ford Motor Company as part of Ford’s Internal Audit leadership team.  Rick’s professional certifications include CIA, CRMA, CISA, and Six Sigma Blackbelt.  He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with an MBA and Bachelor’s degrees in business and information technology. Rick currently serves on the Board and Co-chairs the Communications Committee.

 

Michael Macdonald is the Executive Director of Internal Control and Compliance at Consumers Energy and CMS Energy. Mike was previously the Executive Director, Budget Systems and Process, Consumers Energy and CMS Energy and also held a number of positions with Ford Motor Company primarily in the Treasury and Credit operations.  He holds an MBA from Michigan State, a BS from Florida State and is a Certified Management Accountant (inactive).  Mike currently serves on the Detroit IIA Board.

Joe Miko is a management and IT consultant with over 30 years of experience.  Joe is the Owner/CEO of Miko Consulting, LLC and was previously with Crowe Healthcare Risk Consulting, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services.  Joe is currently a Detroit IIA Board Member and completed our financial audit prior to joining the Board. Joe has BBA degree and is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and is a member of the IIA and ISACA.

Karen Muglia has over 30 years of experience in accounting and internal audit / SOX compliance across industries and is the Owner/CEO of In Control Consulting Solutions, LLC.  Karen has served in director and manager positions and was previously with Plante Moran, Jefferson Wells, Deloitte and Rehmann Group. She has a BA in economics from the University of Michigan and is a Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA).  Karen is the 2nd Past President of the Detroit IIA, chaired the program committee in 2010-11, and supports the Treasurer with accounting functions. 

John Pagac is a managing director in BDO’s Risk Advisory Services practice. Prior to joining BDO, John was previously with a Big Four public accounting firm, providing internal audit services to several large global companies which included assisting 5 companies in establishing an internal audit function.  In addition, he also served as the Internal Audit Director for a global aftermarket auto supplier. He earned his Bachelor of Sciences in Accounting from Michigan State University. John is a CPA and member of the IIA. He is also a Board Member of the Detroit IIA and serves on the Programs Committee.

Sajay Rai is owner of Securely Yours LLC and Securely Managed LLC and provides cyber security services through these companies.  Prior to starting these companies, Sajay was a Partner with Ernst & Young LLP for ten years, where he led their national and regional cyber security and risk practices, and was with IBM for thirteen years where he was instrumental in starting their cyber security practice globally.  He earned his Masters of Science degree in Management of Data Processing from Washington University in St. Louis.  Sajay has CPA, CISSP, CISM certifications.  He is also a Board Member of the Detroit IIA, ISACA and SIM chapters.  Sajay also teaches at Oakland University, LTU and Walsh College as Adjunct Professor.

Brian Smith is a Director in Risk Advisory Services for the Jefferson Wells Great Lakes Offices with over 23 years of diverse auditing experience in various industries including automotive and manufacturing, federal, state, and local governments, and consumer products.  Brian has previously worked in public accounting for a Big Four firm, as a corporate controller and served as the Head of Internal Audit.   He earned his accounting degree at Western Michigan University.  Brian is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and is Six Sigma Green Belt certified. Brian currently serves on the Detroit IIA Board and completes the CAP reporting.

Amanda Spikes is a Senior Associate in Advisory, Internal Audit $ Enterprise Risk with KPMG. Amanda earned Bachelor’s degrees from Wayne State University in Accounting and Psychology and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Amanda also worked at WSU as an intern prior to joining KPMG. She currently serves on the Detroit IIA Board and leads the Spring Training Committee. 

Jason Thomas is a new Board nominee. He is the Director of Corporate Audit & Advisory Services with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  Jason joined the General Auditor’s Office in 2006 and has held leadership roles since 2013.  He is instrumental in leading the enterprise risk assessment process.  Jason is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with a Master’s degree in Economics and Health Services Administration from Walsh College.  He also serves as a BCBSM liaison on the Federal Employee Program Audit Plan Advisory Group. Jason is a member of the Detroit IIA and the Leadership Development Association Chapter #141.  

Molly Tripp is the Director of Internal Audit, The Americas at Ford Motor Company since November 2017. Has worked at Ford for 25 years in various Finance functions including Manufacturing, Marketing & Sales, Accounting, Employee Benefits and Treasury. Holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan and BA in History from Tufts University. Became a Certified Internal Auditor in 1997. Molly is a current Board Member and Co-chairs the Communications Committee.

Eulonda N. Whitmore is the Associate Vice President and Chief Audit Executive at the Wayne State University (WSU) Office of Internal Audit. Prior to joining WSU, she worked in public accounting at Alan C. Young and Associates. She mentors WSU and MSU students; served as the IIA Detroit Chapter President and is currently on several Detroit Chapter committees; is on the Association of College and University Auditors Risk Dictionary Committee; and serves on The IIA Academic Relations Committee. She earned her BA degree in Accounting from MSU and her MBA from WSU. She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and Certified Construction Auditor (CCA).
