I am honored to serve as your President for our 2018-2019 Chapter year.  As most of you know, I am the owner of a cyber security consulting firm, Securely Yours. I have been involved with the IIA Detroit Chapter for over 10 years.  I am also a member of IIA’s Global IT Guidance Committee (the Committee which publishes Global Technology Audit Guides).  I am looking forward to an exciting and knowledgeable year for all of us.

This past year, we celebrated our 75th Anniversary by having a gala with Mike Duggan (Mayor of Detroit) and Richard Baird (Michigan Transformation Manager & Sr. Advisor to the Governor) as our special guests. We donated $7,500 to the Michigan Education Excellence Foundation during the gala.  We also held another year of informative spring conference topics (jointly with Detroit ISACA Chapter); provided you the opportunity to participate in Spring and Fall seminars in addition to our monthly meetings; and volunteered with Junior Achievement.  In addition, we continued our tradition of giving back to the profession with a donation of $7,500 to the IIA Research Foundation and achieving Ruby/Gold Chapter status.  We awarded 4 scholarship awards to students who participated in our annual scholarship contest.

During the summer, the Board has been busy preparing for our coming year. We had some major changes that took quite a bit of time of our Board members.  First, Pam Weipert who has been a symbol of rock managing our finances stepped down from the Treasurer role.  Luckily, Alan Demir was able to step up and take over the Treasury function.  THE BOARD THANKS PAM FOR HER INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTION AS A TREASURER.  And appreciates Alan’s willingness to step up to the Treasurer’s role.

Looking forward, we plan to continue providing you engaging and thought-provoking speakers during our monthly meetings, webinars, seminars and the Spring conference.  To increase our member participation, we plan to try new meeting days, times and locations (so if you have any suggestions, please drop me an email).  We are moving to the IIA’s new Event Management Tool. Therefore, you will notice this change when registering for the monthly meetings.

Our success would not be possible without the time and commitment of our Board members.  They work tirelessly (and without pay) to give back to the profession and help make Detroit one of the best chapters in the country.  Many thanks to our board members and all their efforts are greatly appreciated.

If you have any suggestions or ideas on how to improve our services to members, or if you feel that we could improve on our current offerings, please feel free to let me know (email:  sajayrai@securelyyoursllc.com or call at 248-723-5224).

Hope to see you soon!
