Detecting Deception and Managing Conflict

Being able to detect deception and manage conflict is an instrumental part of the effectiveness of an internal audit function. Those who attend Dr. Celmer’s presentation will learn about these important skills by learning how to:
Detecting Deception  
  • Use dialogue to recognize lying within the first five minutes
  • Understand how body language can tip you off to deception
  • Analyze sentence structure as a means of detecting deception
  • Spot suspicious emails and when to dig deeper
  • Maintain rapport while searching for the truth
Managing Conflict
  • Recognize the difference between debate and conflict
  • Use non-verbal communication to de-escalate confrontation
  • Help angry people reestablish self-control
  • How to make effective presentations under fire
  • Encourage and facilitate constructive conflict
Speaker – David S. Celmer, Ph.D
Dr. David Celmer, principal of Celmer and Associates, Inc. specializes in the fields of Change Management, Instructional Design and Delivery, Executive Leadership Development, Conflict Management, Customer Service, and Team and Individual Performance Improvement.

Dr. Celmer received a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Fordham University and has over 25 years of experience in the area of human relations. Eleven of those years were spent as a human resources and organization development executive within Ciba-Geigy, a multibillion-dollar international pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals firm. He now heads
Celmer and Associates, Inc. an independent consulting practice focused on organizational improvement and employee effectiveness. Some of Dr. Celmer’s clients include National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, NASA, Novartis Life Sciences, Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceuticals, Forest Laboratories, Inc., Human Genome Sciences, Inc., Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, University of Maryland Medical Center, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products, Hudson Insurance Group, Broadview Int’l Investment Bank, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, Siemens Engineering, Volvo North America PricewaterhouseCoopers Professional Services, and Centennial Wireless Communications.
