The students ranged from sophomore to senior level accounting majors who were eager to learn and appreciative of the discussion on the internal audit field.  The academic relations team presented the group with an "Internal Audit 101" presentation which touched on differences between internal and external auditors, planning, risk assessments, and internal controls.  For information please contact

Student Membership 

The IIA-LA chapter highly recommends that students obtain membership with the IIA which is only $50.  Benefits of membership are:
  • Access to employers and companies through volunteering or attending monthly luncheons;
  • Participation in the Internship Exchange Program where the IIA Los Angeles Chapter teams with local employers looking for student interns;
  • Discounts toward the Certified Internal Auditor (“CIA”) application fee, examination fee, and review classes and materials; and
    • In addition, student fees for the CIA examination application is only $65 (regular fee $230) and each part is only $230 (regular fee $395).​

IIA Los Angeles Virtual Spring 2021 Student Case-Competition


The Los Angeles Chapter of the IIA invites you to participate in the Spring 2021 Student Case-Competition.


$2,850 in cash and prizes to be awarded!


Dear Students and Professors, The Los Angeles chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Academic Relations Committee invites students to participate in the annual Student Case Competition. The Case Competition is an interactive, educational, collaborative event that will challenge you to work with your peers to analyze data, develop ideas, and communicate your findings. The competition will also provide you with a glimpse of how a career in internal audit can provide you with exciting opportunities to learn, develop, and grow your career.


So, gather at least 2 of your friends, challenge yourself and get ready to showcase your talent. Teams will be asked to review information provided in the case study regarding a fictitious company, evaluate internal controls in place, identify control deficiencies and assess risk within the control environment to ultimately make a presentation for enhancements to our professional leaders and the IIA-LA JUDGES.



1st place will receive up to $1,500 in cash, with a limit of $500 for each student.

2nd place will receive up to $900 in cash, with a limit of $300 for each student.

3rd place will receive up to $450 in cash, with a limit of $150 for each student.

·      APRIL 30nd 2021 Register and Submit Case Responses by April 30th, 11:59PM

·      MAY 5th, 2021 - Top Teams Selected are Notified

·      MAY 12th, 2021 -Top Teams will present presentation slides (5 to 7 min max) virtually to IIA-LA Judges and chapter professionals during INTERNAL AUDIT AWARENESS MONTH at our last chapter meeting of the year!



Members of the first five teams to register will win free student memberships and free registration to the next Chapter Event. (Please note that registrants that do not submit a case study will not be eligible)



We encourage undergraduate or graduate students attending Colleges/Universities in the with analytical minds, solid communication skills, and that are passionate about learning and solving problems to form a team of 2 or 3 students and advisor to come and join us! While any student is eligible to participate, some typical majors that are sought after in the auditing profession are Accounting, Information Technology, Finance, Business, and Engineering (just to name a few).
