The Michiana Chapter of the IIA, in partnership with local colleges of IUSB, Ivy Tech, and Southwest Michigan held a dynamic event in March – where professionals and students came together to share their experiences. We had 45 students from all three universities come out and learn about the auditing profession. These students ranged from freshman to seniors and all were fully engaged. Professionals gave the students great advice during the networking session and panel discussions. The students' main focus was on what makes a successful interview, how professionals find the best candidates, and how they can best show off their key strengths. The students were highly engaged and truly appreciative of this event.
Professionals also had a great time mentoring these students at small tables while eating dinner and then providing fellowship during our after-event pizza "party". Although the pizza gathering was not scheduled, it showed students that auditors really can be flexible! Everyone – students and professionals - by then were comfortable and ready to truly interact. For the professionals that stayed, some commented on how difficult it was to leave with so many engaged students. Student Night truly was a success this year; we hope many of the students that attended will become an IIA member at a nominal fee and then reach out to the membership base to help them with their journey from student to professional.
