Internal Audit Awareness Month in Missouri
Around the world, May is recognized as International Internal Audit Awareness Month. In support of this, on April 19, 2016, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed a proclamation to declare May 2016 to be Internal Audit Awareness Month in the state of Missouri. A state proclamation emphasizes the importance and value the internal audit function contributes to local organization.
During this observance and throughout the year, audit professionals work to raise awareness of the internal audit profession and its value to businesses and organizations. At its simplest, internal auditing identifies risks that could keep an organization from achieving its goals, and proactively recommends improvements to help management manage their risks.
Each year the Missouri IIA Chapters (St. Louis, Kansas City, Central Missouri, and Ozarks Chapters) work together with the Governor's office to draft and finalize the state proclamation. This year Nicki Russell from the Central Missouri Chapter helped facilitate this process. Many thanks to Nicki and the Governor's office.
