"Auditing Sustainability Conference"
Date: June 16, 2014
Location: Seattle University
Speakers: Douglas Park (SASB) and Bob Laux (Microsoft, and IIRF board of directors)
Last year, according to CorporateRegister.com, more than 5,500 companies around the world issued sustainability reports, up from about 800 a decade ago. Statistics show that 83% of people will trust a company more if it is socially responsible (USA Today) and 90% of young professionals would prefer to work for an environmentally friendly employer (MonsterTRAK Survey). Having a sustainability program is advantageous from both a customer as well as recruiting perspective. Given the importance of maintaining a socially responsible company it follows that a company should provide assurance that their sustainability claims are accurate. Internal auditors are professionally qualified to assess risk and evaluate controls around business processes. As such – they are well suited to provide assurance regarding sustainability organizations to prevent reputational risk. The can verify the key performance indicators and data within CSR reports.
