Course Description

The course will first cover a methodology and approach for data analysis and visual reporting, including “before and after” examples of audit objectives where data analysis and visual reporting have been thoughtfully applied.  We will then review the IIA practice advisory guides for data analysis, continuous auditing, and fraud detection, and introduce and provide examples of the QuickStart methodology.  QuickStart is a tool-neutral, repeatable approach to brainstorming, acquiring data, writing scripts, and reporting internal audit findings, using a data-driven approach.

The course will continue with QuickStart and Maturity Model exercises, which will have the class working in small groups to complete brainstorming, data acquisition, and analytical exercises for multiple business cycles and processes. Tips and takeaways for each step of the data analysis will be provided, with special emphasis on advancing a company-specific maturity model. Wrap-up will include a bibliography and up-to-date social media links for maintaining technical currency in data analysis and visual reporting.
