COSO Framework – Overview of Changes, Principles, and Applicabilty to SOX
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:   This presentation will provide an overview of the COSO changes, explain the Principles, and explore how the changes may apply to SOX going forward. 
 
Speaker Bio: Aaron Garcia is a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers and was a principal contributor to the 2013 update of the Internal Control -- Integrated Framework issued by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO).  He was the Project Lead Director for the Internal Control over External Financial Reporting: A Compendium of Approaches and Examples document that was released concurrently with the Framework.  His experience spans over 12 years serving clients in the technology, communications, entertainment, and consumer products industries. He has extensive experience advising clients and reporting on the design and implementation of internal control environments, including addressing compliance aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley.
 
COSO Updates and Expectations – Change is in the Details
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:   This presentation will explore the details of the COSO Principle changes and how to apply those changes going forward.  The speaker will also provide real-life experiences and explain expectations related to the changes.  
 
Speaker Bio: John Giakouminakis is an Advisory Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Los Angeles office.  John has over 14 years of experience with a strong focus on internal control reviews for private and public companies; including helping prepare public companies to comply with Sections 302 and 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, as well as supporting the external audit reviews confirming compliance with the Act.  In addition, John has assisted several private companies in preparing for an IPO, including helping them design and implement internal control structures, evaluate financial systems, establish corporate governance, and improve financial processes including external reporting.
 
Implementing COSO Changes – Challenges and Marketplace Update
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:   This presentation will explain the implementation challenges companies face and discuss lessons learned from companies implementing the changes.  The speaker will also provide an update on what’s going on in the Marketplace from a COSO perspective.  
 
Speaker Bio: George Graves, Jr. is a partner in KPMG’s Advisory practice based in the firm’s Portland office and is a frequent speaker on risk and controls.  He brings over 30 years of experience providing a diverse array of governance, risk and compliance services. He has led several worldwide multi-million dollar internal audit departments and conducted projects which include risk assessment, internal control self-assessment, and numerous process control assessments.  His experience also includes ERP application reviews, privacy, and network security and control reviews.  George is a certified public accountant licensed in Oregon and Washington and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.  George graduated with highest honors from Oregon State University, earning a degree in business and a minor in computer science.

The COSO Chair on COSO - Plus PCAOB Agenda Update – Get Ready for More Change! 
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:   This presentation will provide the COSO Chair’s view on the COSO changes.  It will also serve as an update on the PCAOB’s agenda as Bob serves on the Standing Advisory Board to the PCAOB.  
 
Speaker Bio: Bob Hirth serves as COSO Chair and was unanimously elected by the board of its sponsoring organizations to serve a three year term beginning June 1, 2013. His experience includes all of COSO’s mission disciplines; Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Control and Fraud Deterrence.  He has worked on assignments and made presentations in over 15 countries, serving more than 50 organizations and working closely with board members, C-level executives, finance and accounting personnel and accounting firm partners and employees.
In 2012, Bob was appointed to serve a two year term on the Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and was re-appointed to serve a three-year term ending December 31, 2016.  
Most recently, he served as a Senior Managing Director of Protiviti, a global internal audit and business risk consulting firm that operates in 22 countries. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President, Global internal audit and a member of the Firm’s six-person executive management team for the first ten years of Protiviti’s development.
