Abstract “Contrasting GRC and ERM: Perceptions and Practices among Internal Auditors”


This session will outline the GRC and ERM research study. The following objectives of the research will be discussed:

      Capture the current understanding of GRC and ERM by internal audit management globally.

      Identify perceived distinctions between these concepts.

      Gather and gauge the perceived extent to which an effective GRC environment and ERM processes have been developed within responding entities.

      Determine whether the definitions of GRC and ERM differ based on the maturity of such efforts.

      Identify the role of internal auditing in supporting and evaluating such processes.

The discussion will include the challenges and opportunities for internal auditors relative to GRC and ERM.

 

Abstract

“Risk Assessment for Internal Auditors”

This session will address internal auditors’ roles in enterprise risk management, risk-driven resource allocation, and risk-driven engagement planning. The material will include coverage of the IIA standards relative to risk, ISO 31000, and selected resources. The presentation will provide a view of best practices and a discussion of the challenges and opportunities for the profession. The material will provide a summary of recommended readings. A brief review of the COSO will be covered.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:  

Glenn E. Sumners

Director

Louisiana State University Center for Internal Auditing

 

Glenn Sumners, DBA, CIA, CFE, CRMA is on the faculty of Louisiana State University where he is the director of the Louisiana State University Center for Internal Auditing (LSUCIA). He was named Educator of the Year in 1987 by the IIA and received the LCPA Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award in 1999. In 2008 Dr. Sumners was honored by LSU as a Rainmanker. In 2006, Professor Sumners received the Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award from the IIA. He is a member of the IIA Society Emeritus. In 2012, he was inducted into the IIA American Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners. Five LSUCIA students have placed first in the international manuscript competition. Eighteen students from the LSUCIA Program have won the international award for the highest score on the CIA exam. In 2012, The CIA Award for the highest student score was named the Dr. Glenn E. Sumners Award. He is an honorary faculty member at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

He provides quality assurance reviews, consulting, and training to internal audit groups and audit committees. He has made over 1300 presentations in the last 30 years. He has been invited to speak in 25 countries.

Event Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations made more than five working days notice before the scheduled event will be eligible for a full refund of registration fees paid.

Cancellations made without five working days notice will not be eligible for a refund, and the registrant will be responsible for the full registration fee even if payment has not yet been made.

However, the registrant may send another individual as a substitute. If neither the registrant nor a substitute attends the event, copies of course materials will be available to the registrant after the presentation date upon request and payment receipt.

Take Interstate 91 North or South to Exit 23

Heading North

If you are heading North on I-91, take Exit 23 and turn left at the end of the ramp. As you approach the third traffic light, get into the middle or left lane and, at the traffic light, turn LEFT onto Cromwell Avenue, also known as "The Shunpike." Go to the third traffic light and turn left onto Brook Street. The entrance to 716 Brook Street is on your right; follow around to back of the building marked 716 and look for the CSCPA awning.

Heading South

If you are heading South on I-91, take Exit 23 and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Go straight through the next traffic light.
