Session Overview

This session will highlight the key components of Internal Auditing, including the International Professional Practices Framework, Managing an Internal Audit Function and Conducting Internal Audit Engagements, as well as current case studies. 

As Internal Audit functions evolve, new skills are required to effectively assess an organization’s risks and internal controls. This course will allow individuals that do not have Internal Audit experience to more easily transition into Internal Audit roles by acquiring an understanding of Internal Audit practices and differences between Internal Audit and other audit practices. This course will also benefit individuals working in a control function, as it focuses on identifying, understanding and assessing key risks and controls.

This session is suitable for all levels and recommended to professionals that are new to the Internal Audit profession. This session is also suitable for individuals transitioning from External Audit into Internal Audit.

Speakers

Jim Barbour, IIA Trainer & IIA Toronto Chapter Past President

Jim Barbour, CPA (Tennessee), CGMA, CIA, CRMA, CFSA, CFE is with MNP’s Enterprise Risk Services practice. Working out of the Toronto office, Jim draws on 20+ years of experience working with clients in various industries, including financial services and public companies. Prior to joining MNP, he served in internal audit leadership roles for two leading Canadian retail and banking organizations. Additionally, Jim was a practice leader at two international accounting and consulting firms. Jim is Past-President and Governor for the IIA, Toronto Chapter and currently serves on the Nominating Committee for the IIA Canada.

Margaret Pacheco, Former IIA Toronto Chapter Past President

Margaret Pacheco CPA, CA, PMP is with Baywall Consulting and is a recognized leader in Audit, Governance, Risk, Compliance and Project Management with over 20 years of experience. Margaret is a CPA,CA and PMP and has focused her last 15 years in Financial Institutions, Banking, Insurance (Life, P&C and Reinsurance) and Wealth Management. Margaret has worked in Canada, U.S.A. and South Africa providing her with exposure to different regulatory environments and practices. Margaret is the former President of the Institute of Internal Auditors (Toronto Chapter) and has volunteered with the Institute in various Executive roles for over 5 years.
