Session Overview

Information Technology (IT) continues to evolve more rapidly than ever before and the pace of change is expontential.  Innovations in IT continue to create new businesses, opportunities, products and services that never existed and is now no longer IT at all; it is a direct business enabler to enhance and create value for organizations.  The increased use of IT has created complex inter-dependencies within and between companies, and reliance on external vendors.

As the use of IT capabilities continue to expand, it is difficult to ignore the need to audit the IT systems that companies have become so reliant on.  Furthermore, these systems process huge amounts of data utilizing artificial intelligence with a combination of sophisticated software, machine learning and human analytic skills.  With this evolution, it is imperative that the IT risks and impacts are understood, prioritized, evaluated, monitored and managed.

With the heavy dependence on IT, it is very difficult to “audit around IT” today and Internal Auditors have a pivotal role to play.  Internal Auditors, as the third line of defence, safeguard the assets and ensure that the organization can meet its objectives.  Due to the complex nature of IT, many Internal Audit functions are challenged to staff this internally and may have to rely on outsourcing or co-sourcing models instead.

In this introductory session on IT audit, we will cover:

•           IT audit planning, scoping, staffing and timing

•           Managing the IT audit

•           Key IT “jargons”

•           Favourite IT Controls

•           Favourite IT Automated and Application controls

•           Reviewing CSAE 3416 and SOC audit reports

•           Closing and concluding the IT audit
