Chief Audit Executives, Directors

On Thursday, June 25th, 2020, MNP will continue the 2020 series of IIA Roundtable events. Due to the current pandemic, the format has been changed from an in-person meeting to an online webinar, from 15:00 to 16:30. We welcome Adriana Gliga-Belavic as she presents on the topic of Internal Audit and Privacy Challenges in the Wake of COVID-19 and Regulatory Changes.

Even though we are living in unprecedented times due to the current pandemic, there is still the expectation both from regulators and citizens that organizations will maintain compliance with privacy legislation. In addition, due to the large volume of changes in privacy legislation around the world (such as GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA Mandatory Breach Notification), organizations must have a good understanding of the jurisdiction(s) they operate in, the applicable legal requirements, and, the type of data collected, processed and shared with third parties. Hence, the robustness of the privacy program implemented by the organization to ensure compliance with legislation becomes paramount to building stakeholder confidence.

Internal Audit has an important role to play in helping the organization understand how prepared it is in protecting employee and customer information and responding to regulatory requests in an effective way. In addition, Internal Audit must consider what could be done differently to prepare for these changes by looking at leading practices. Furthermore, there is a role that the IIA has to play in order to prepare the profession in building the capabilities to address the demand for auditing data privacy programs.
