Cathy Criswell graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1983 and worked as an accountant in the private sector, until she found her true passion is working with internal auditing disciplines to make the City of Tulsa a better place. Cathy started work in the Office of the City Auditor in 1988, helping to create the Internal Auditing Department.

As an internal auditor, Cathy worked with every city department to help ensure city government is providing the best services.
Cathy is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Public Accountant who worked for City Auditor Phil Wood and for Mayors Kathy Taylor and Dewey Bartlett. In 2008, she was promoted to Chief Risk Officer, the position she held until she retired at the end of 2011. In 2013, Cathy decided to throw her hat into the political ring and was elected City Auditor. She immediately began working to enlarge the office’s duties to make auditing services align with full scope auditing required by IIA Standards.

In addition to her career with the City of Tulsa, Cathy teaches auditing seminars. She began by volunteering with the IIA and was awarded Distinguished Faculty Member status. Eventually, Cathy wrote and taught seminars across the country.
