Meet Melissa Hodges!

Role: President

IIA Experience: Melissa has volunteered for the past 6 years and previously served 4 years as a board member. 

Why did you get involved? "The Washington D.C. Chapter is its own community of passionate and talented internal auditors who are also very fun to network and build relationships with. Having the opportunity to be President of the chapter and have a bigger role in advocating for internal audit and giving back to the members is something I could not pass up." 

Fun Fact: "I am a D.C. native and a passionate Hokie (Virginia Tech alumna). If you don’t see me on a client site or IIA meeting during the week, I am hiking with my dogs, at a winery with my girlfriends, or poorly attempting to play golf with my husband.​"


Meet Adrienne A Ommaya! 

Role: President-Elect

IIA Experience: Adrienne has over 10 years of volunteering. In the DC Chapter as the VP of Programs, the Executive Vice President, and as a Board Member prior to her current role as the President-Elect. She also served the mid-Atlantic district as the District Representative, serving DC, Baltimore and Northern Virginia.​

Why did you get involved? "I have heard from so many people that you get back more than you give when you volunteer with the IIA, and this is true for many of us who volunteer. The people I’ve met through the chapter meetings and our volunteer network became a community that I’ve grown alongside and as a result, we have a strong network. This becomes increasingly important throughout our careers, as we expand our portfolios and leverage the knowledge of one another. This year, I’m especially excited to be working with a creative, motivated team! It’s going to be a great year!" 

Fun Fact: "I began my internal audit career working for the Yavapai-Apache tribe in their casino.​"


 Meet Anton Leontyev! 

Role: VP Treasurer 

IIA Experience: Anton was a general memeber prior to his current role as VP Treasurer.

Why did you get involved? "In college I was heavily involved in my business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon. I really enjoyed participating in an extracurricular organization and wanted to volunteer in a similar way in the business world. The IIA provided the perfect opportunity to serve in a such a role and become more involved in the internal audit profession.

Fun Fact: "I am originally from Russia, but have lived in the Maryland area since I was 11 and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. I began my career consulting at a Big 4, but have since transitioned to the private sector. In my downtime, I love travelling, watching Netflix, and snowboarding!"


Meet Taimur Ahmed​!

Role: VP Programs 

IIA Experience: Taimur is serving as VP Programs for the second consecutive year.

Why did you get involved? "After working in the profession for so many years, I wanted to give back to this community and thought my specific position in Programs would be ideal to do so. Our team is looking forward to arranging fun educational events for the group where people can learn about best practices and also network with the best of the best in the IA community. " 

Fun Fact: "I grew up overseas and came to the US to pursue my college education at University of Michigan. Am a huge fan of anything related to my alma mater. In addition, I love trying new restaurants in town and love to travel.​"


Meet Angela Douglas!​ 

​Role: VP Membership 

IIA Experience: Angela has volunteered for 4 years in various roles, including Communications, CAP/Certifications and Membership.

Why did you get involved? "I initially got involved with the Washington D.C. Chapter due to a recommendation from my VP.  However, since then, I have really enjoyed meeting and working with the Board, fellow Officers, and members, while also expanding my leadership and internal audit skills through the various positions I’ve held and participation/attendance at the chapter events." 

Fun Fact: "I am from Florida and came by my love of theme parks honestly.  From all of the parks in Florida (Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Busch Gardens), Coney Island in New York, Six Flags in Atlanta, and Knox Berry Farm and Disney Land in California, my family and I have braved some of the biggest and fastest roller coasters you could imagine, and it was worth every minute of it."


Meet Gwen Bell-Kameka!​ 

​Role: VP Sponsorship 

About: Gwen is currently serving her second term as the VP Sponsorship. Gwen has more than 30 years in business redesign, finance and accounting, auditing and risk management, people development, and recently, she has been focusing on disruptive technologies. She works with Senior Leaders to build their visions into working business solutions and ensure alignment and integration across all business units, projects, and programs. 

Gwen is an award-winning motivational speaker and has published her first book, You Will Never Walk Alone, in March 2019. She has a deep passion for the welfare of children and for those who have no bootstraps that they can use to pull themselves up from poverty and has founded Focus on the Youths to help children in need.

Gwen has a master’s degree in business administration, she is a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and is currently studying International Behavioral Psychology. 


Meet Kristen Roberts! 

Role: VP Advocacy 

IIA Experience: Kristen has served as the AVP Programs from 2016 to 2018.

Why did you get involved? "The recent completion of my Master’s degree in Organizational Management furthered my knowledge of the struggles women have had in the workplace, the advancements that have been made, and how much work there is still left to do to reach true equality. I am excited to bring these discussions to the DC Chapter of IIA for those who are interested in helping the advancement of women in Internal Audit.

Fun Fact: "I have been a resident of Maryland, DC, and now Virginia too!"

 

Meet Joshua Sterns! 

​Role: VP Secretary

About Joshua: Stearns has a BA in International Relations from San Francisco State University and a MPA from Indiana University. His work experience includes six years as a program analyst with the federal government, five years as a classroom teacher, and ten years as an auditor with the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor. He has obtained the CIA and CGAP certifications and is currently pursuing the Certification in Risk Management Assurance. He lives in Arlington, VA with his wife and two children.

Meet Daniyal Sanusi! 

Role: VP Certification / CAP

IIA Experience: Daniyal has volunteered for the past two years while previously serving as the AVP CAP during the 2017 - 2018 term.

Why did you get involved? "To give back to the profession and, interact with professional colleagues." 

Fun Fact: "An ardent lover of the game of soccer; I am a Gooner (Arsenal)! And I equally enjoy hiking with friends.​" 


Meet Karan Patel!

Role: VP Communications

IIA Experience: Karan has been a general member since 2017.

Why did you get involved? "I wanted to get more involved with the internal audit profession, grow my professional network and build my leadership skills." 

Fun Fact: "I was born and raised in the Philly suburbs and moved down to the Metro DC area after graduating from Temple University. I enjoy hanging out with friends, attending concerts, and playing and watching sports!" 

 

Meet Audra Mitchell​!

Role: Governor, Board Chair

About: Audra Mitchell is the current board chair of the IIA Washington, DC Chapter Board of Governors and has been a member of the Chapter since 2017. She is passionate about corporate governance and process improvement. Collaborative in nature, she is also direct and decisive when she needs to be.  She is recognized for her strong interpersonal skills, and for her commitment to leading others.  

In her role with the Chapter, Audra leads the board in its risk management oversight responsibilities, and other charges such as setting the Chapter’s strategic direction. She approaches the role with enthusiasm, passion and a desire to inspire those around her. 

Audra's 18 year career experience includes public and internal auditing, risk management and compliance.  She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a certified public accountant and a certified internal auditor.

Meet Angela Davis!

Role: Governor

About: Angela has over 18 years of experience in government auditing, public accounting, and consulting. Angela’s core strengths are her ability to forge personal connections with individuals across all levels of an organization and inspire others in their career development. In her current role with the Department of Treasury, she is responsible for facilitating investigations, and inquiries; managing and communicating highly sensitive information with internal and external parties. Prior to joining the OCC, Angela served as an Auditor Technical Specialist at the Department of Defense, Office of the Inspector General. She began her career in government auditing with the Defense Contract Audit Agency.

Angela is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Washington, DC Chapter, where she served as the 2015-2017 President and currently serves on the Board of Governors. She holds a B.S., Degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Virginia and a Certified Fraud Examiner.​ 


Meet Marilou Parayaoan!

Role: Governor

About: Marilou is an Audit Manager at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. She holds a CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, CGFM, CGMA, Certified in Air Safety. Marilou is an resolute audit leader with demonstrated knowledge and experience in financial, operational and information technology audits across multiple organizations. Outside of her professional work she served as a member of the IIA DC Chapter Board of Governors and Treasurer of a charitable organization, Medical Mission of Mercy, USA. She loves hiking, kayaking and cooking for her family.​


Meet Ryan Abdel-Megeid!

Role: Governor

About: Ryan is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and is currently the Director of Internal Audit at AARP, the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age.

Ryan leads the Internal Audit team at AARP, and is responsible for preparing and implementing a risk-based audit plan to assess, report on, and ultimately help improve the association’s key internal controls. Ryan works directly with the Chief Audit Executive to develop Audit Committee reports, and works closely with AARP leadership to provide recommendations on how to improve governance.

Prior to working at AARP, Ryan was a Senior Manager in Grant Thornton’s Risk Advisory practice. Ryan led internal audit engagements at public and private clients, including but not limited to; IT risk assessments, audit planning, testing, and reporting. He has worked closely with the C-suite of regional, national, and international companies, not-for-profit organizations & associations, as well as highly-regulated financial services companies, to help them effectively manage technology, operational, and enterprise risks.

Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. 


Meet Jenna Caprara!

Role: Governor

IIA Experience: Jenna most recently served as President and previously served as VP Membership

Why did you get involved? "I got involved when I first moved to DC.  I had never been involved in a professional organization before.  It allowed me to network and meet others across various organizations all with similar goals of being the best auditors we can be.

Fun Fact: "I am originally from Florida.  When I am not at work, I enjoy reading, traveling, and working out."​
