Leadership through Finance Transformation (50 minutes)

Topic 2 -

Regulations, Standards, and Other Factors Impacting the Audit Profession (75 minutes)

Dan Smith – Sr. Manager, Risk Advisory Services

Are you staying ahead of the audit profession?  Do you know how new and proposed regulations and standards will impact the audit activity? 

This session will include recent updates to external audit standards, NASDAQ proposed internal audit requirements, and other factors influencing internal audit external audits. 


Topic 3 -

Operation Management and Operational Auditing - What makes for a good operation and how can it be audited? (75 minutes)

            Dan Smith – Sr. Manager, Risk Advisory Services

In this session we will explore definitions and key concepts for operations management and operational auditing.  Operation managers will gain an understanding on where internal audit would start the audit process in an ideal world.  Participant activities will provide the opportunity to demonstrate conducive and adversarial approaches to auditing and how the auditee and auditor can work better together. 



Jeff Creech - National Director, Finance Transformation Center of Expertise

Mr. Creech has over 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and operations for manufacturing entities and financial institutions. This experience includes both operational and corporate level financial roles in areas such as financial reporting, shared services management, systems implementations and operational management. Within these various functions, Mr. Creech has been involved in budgeting and forecasting, merger and acquisition activities (both the “buy” and the “sell” side), software selection, and a variety of other key responsibilities. Additionally, Mr. Creech has deep experience in strategic business planning and facilitation. After beginning his career in public accounting, Jeff worked in financial services for six years and manufacturing for 11 years, and spent some time as a financial consultant. He is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant. Mr. Creech has been named a Jefferson Wells/Experis Director of the Year in both 2010 and 2011.

Dan Smith - Senior Manager, Experis Risk Advisory Services 

Mr. Smith has extensive experience with implementing and providing assurance over systems of internal controls for financial, operational, and compliance business objectives.  He has been critical to the establishment of COSO based enterprise risk management practices and assessment activities at mid to large cap companies as well as privately owned organizations.  Mr. Smith has been an invited speaker and/or panelist at several national conferences including INROADS, Food Marketing Institute, National Association of Restaurant IA Executives, National Association of Motor Carrier Audit Executives and the Insurance Internal Audit Group in addition to multiple IIA chapters.  He received his B.S. degree in Accounting from Elizabeth City State University and his MBA from the Belk College of Business at the University ofNorth Carolina at Charlotte.  Mr. Smith is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and volunteers as the president of the Charlotte Chapter.
